I think you’ll agree with me when I say:
Finding the best electric grill is not an easy task.
No matter how hard you try, always there is one electric grill which seems better than the one you have selected.
To worsen matters, there is always that shopper who seems hell-bent to sell you another product.
Finally, you know that it is your pocket – and not your wish-list, which will make the final choice.
As you might guess, these circumstances leave you in a predicament.
In selecting the best electric grill we kept three things in mind.
First, whether you want an indoor, outdoor or a small grill, we have got you covered.
Second, we tried to select only those grills which have got brilliant reviews on Amazon. That is, there is no grill in this review which doesn’t have brilliant reviews on its back. So, you can select any of the upcoming grills with eyes closed.
Third, we devised a checklist of feature to select the best electric grill. To see what those features are, scroll down to see the buying guide.

1. George Foreman GGR50B – Overall Best Electric Grill
To increase your expectations of this grill, here’s a thing you need to know about it:
It’s the best seller on Amazon. Equally important is the fact that it is one of the least expensive electric grill.
Hence, if you want a top rated grill at a low price, this grill is what you need to get.
First thing first, if you are a party freak who loves inviting guests to the home, the HUGE circular grilling surface boasted by this grill is just right for you.
Capable of providing over fifteen servings at one time, this indoor/outdoor grill will never let you down in front of guests.
Did I just mention the term “outdoor”? Of course, I did.
For, no matter what the weather patterns are where you live, the removable stand will allow you to take this grill from your countertop to patio in no time. Also, if it suddenly starts raining, the stand is easy to remove so you can get under roof in no time with all your food items still intact.
While its grilling surface is hugely impressive, the layer of nonstick coating adoring the grates isn’t far behind. Apart from being durable and easy to clean, this nonstick coating will let you say goodbye to oil and butter forever.
Moreover, while some grills don’t divide heat uniformly from the center to the sides, the best seller tag of the GGR50B should indicate that it’s different. Thanks to the quality of parts used in its construction, this grill will make sure that – whether you have placed them in the center or on the sides, no meat pieces go away and its properly grilled.
Now, all of us know that different people have different grilling fantasies. While some like to overcook it, others want the raw taste of meat. Thankfully, this grill doesn’t discriminate, a fact testified by its five heat settings. Consequently, regardless of the type of food you want to grill, this adjustable temperature control will pay full heed to your demands.
When this grill provides space for more than fifteen servings, it does so at a cost: you cannot put the grill plate into a dishwasher. Hence, you will have to clean it with your hands.
The Bottom Line
If you have a likening of throwing big parties, you cannot survive without having a big dishwasher. Subsequently, if you have a big dishwasher, you should have no qualms about buying the George Foreman GGR50B electric grill.
2. Hamilton Beach 25361 – Best Indoor Electric Grill
Before reviewing it, there are two models of the same product available on Amazon: with window and without window. Since there is a meager price difference between the two, we will review the one which has a window in it.
Let me ask you a question: what, in your opinion, is the main difference between an indoor and an outdoor Grill?
You guessed it right; it’s the serving’s size. For, outdoor grills are known to serve more people than their indoor counterparts.
However, if you don’t know the difference before, you wouldn’t know it by looking at the size of this grill’s heating element. For, in one serving, it can feed at least four and at most six people. Put simply, while you are paying for the convenience of an indoor grill, what you are getting is the size of an outdoor. How’s that for a change!
Secondly, this grip is as compact as they come. To explain the true meaning of this sentence, let’s take a look at its drip tray. Most grills have their drip trays beneath them, detached, in the open.
However, this grill has its inside. In fact, you may not see it from behind. That doesn’t mean, however, that the drip tray is very difficult to remove. It isn’t. All you have to do is to push it slightly and it will come out. That’s how compact it is.
What’s more, to let you clean it easily, this grill comes with a detachable lid. Just remove it whenever you think it’s time to clean the grill.
More importantly, it has adjustable temperature control as well as preheats and power lights. So, without even looking at the temperature gauge, the turning off of preheating light will tell you that it’s time to grill.
Some of its users claimed that the smoke produced by this grill while heating was enough to set off a fire alarm. Others believed that it doesn’t reach the advertised 400*F temperature mark.
The Bottom Line
If you are looking for an indoor grill which has a lid to keep smoke, steam and grease splatters, your search ends here. Though not without shortcomings, the Hamilton Beach Searing Indoor Grill provides a good value for money.
3. Char-Broil TRU Infrared (180 Grill) – Best Electric Grill For Patio
So far in this article, there are two types of grills: very expensive and least expensive. In case you weren’t enamored by either.
Here is a third category for you: medium priced. Hence, it has the useful features of both and the shortcomings of at least one.
Have you ever seen a baby pram? That’s how this grill looks.
More importantly, it is as convenient to maneuver as a baby pram. Have doubts regarding this claim? You should, for you aren’t aware of its heating method.
Some of the grills mentioned previously had a catch pan to collect meat juices. However, ask meat lovers, and they might testify that it is that juice – which you throw away with disdain, which adds real taste to the meat. So, what to do, one way is to use this grill.
For, thanks to its infrared heating method, this grill produces minimum juices and fewer flare-ups. As a result, not only you get juicy meet to eat but there are no hot or cold spots on your food, making it delicious to satiate your eating appetite.
Moving on, one feature of this grill which befuddled me – in a good way, was its heating surface. For, despite not costing astronomically, its heating surface is a generous 245sq inches. That is, you can easily place more than six servings on it in one go.
The large heating surface doesn’t mean that this grill will require loads of storage area. Rather, if you don’t have enough space in your room – and want a grill which can be conveniently placed in a balcony, this grill is a must-have.
Lastly, you might have encountered many electric grills claiming to raise the temperature to 500*F. As it has done in other areas, this grill raises the threshold by providing temperature as high as 550*F. Put simply, as long as you don’t want to grill a whole lamb on it at once, its heat will grill the thickest of meats without making a noise.
According to some users, they had problems with its cord length because the 5foot length provided wasn’t enough for them. Another problem which they encountered was the temperature dropping more than 50degrees once they opened the lid.
The Bottom Line
Apart from the few high-end electric grills – like that of George Foreman’s mentioned at the start of this article, almost all of them lose temperature on lid opening. Yes, this grill has this shortcoming, but it has more than enough features to make up for it.
4. Cuisinart GR-4N – Best Electric Grill With Griddle
Are you a great chef or an awesome cook? You might be, you might not be. It doesn’t make any difference. For, if you buy the Cuisinart GR-4N Griddler, you’ll become both in your house.
Have doubts about my claim? No worries. The features of this Grill will speak for itself.
Before we take a look at its features, there is one thing you need to know about this grill: it’s super easy to clean. That is, you can use it in your indoor kitchen without having any problems whatsoever. In the same breath, the fact that it is easy to handle will make you fall in love with it.
Some people, whom I know, won’t use electric grills with the fear that they won’t get the same taste of a charcoal or a propane grill from it.
While their fears aren’t always dumbfounded, this grill, thanks to its riveted plates, gives the grill the same grill marks as any propane or charcoal grill. Hence, if that was your reason for not buying an electric grill, you are sorted out.
Turning our attention to its countertop, and that is where Cuisinart raises the bar. For, the countertop gives you five options to set this grill on. They include Panini press, full grill, contact grill, half grill/half griddle and full griddle. If you are unaware of the jargon, consider this: whether you have got the thickest of meats or the thinnest of burgers, these five options will help you out.
While the countertop options make this grill good, the adjustable temperature controls and the reversible and removable nonstick cooking plates make this grill great. For, while the former drains grease into an integrated drip tray for healthy cooking, the latter provides indicator lights and includes scraping tool and gourmet recipes.
Finally, if you are a student – and since you don’t like staying in the kitchen for hours, this grill has got something for you as well. For, thanks to its extremely searing temperature, this grill will let you make a sandwich or grill a meat in an astonishing 5-6minutes. No need to get your sleeves dirty.
While it might be hard to believe in the wake of above-mentioned features, this grill has some shortcomings. The most important of which is the limited lifespan of its nonstick layer. If you use it regularly, then, at max, the nonstick surface will last five years.
The Bottom Line
For a moment, think: is the five years span of the nonstick layer small by any means? Of course not. And even if you think otherwise, you can use this grill carefully to ensure its nonstick layer remains intact for longer. If you do that, there are not many electric grills as good as this one.
5. Masterbuilt 20150414R – Best Outdoor Electric Grill
As you might have guessed by its name, the Masterbuilt Electric Veranda Grill is only for outdoors.
Hence, in case you were looking for an indoor grill, this grill is NOT for you. For others who, like me, love to grill outside, shouldn’t we just look at this grill’s features?
While the best seller tag of the George Freeman Grill heightened its reputation, there is one thing this grill has which it didn’t: a removable drip pan.
For, regardless of the fact that you don’t have to use oil, some of the fat will come down off the grill. In case it does, you don’t have to put a spare duster beneath the grill, for the drip pan will take care of it.
Also, if you live in windy conditions, you might need a grill with a generous cooking element. Otherwise, the wind will be quick to bust your plans.
Thankfully, by boasting an adjustable 1650W cooking element, this grill will not let the wind disrupt your plans. What’s more, due to the power supplied by the cooking element, even the thickest of meats will be properly grilled.
If you look closely, you might notice a small, black-colored thermostat on the side of the grill. While you know what it does, what you don’t know is that it is made of stainless steel.
What difference does it make? You might ask. Well, for starters, the stainless steel will make sure the thermostat doesn’t catch rust any time soon. Also, stainless steel is known to have low conductivity. Put simply, it won’t let the thermostat overheat. Consequently, you can operate it without any risk of accidental burns.
Finally, if you are to put your grill in outdoor conditions, you have to devise a method to protect it from the environment. Once again, Masterbuilt has got you covered. How? By paying the nominal additional cost, you can get a patio grill cover that will save your grill from the cruelties of the environment.
According to some users, this grill has the tendency to lose temperature if you fail to close its lid while operating. That is, you cannot open the lid unless you want to flip the meat or to remove it altogether.
The Bottom Line
For those of you who are looking for easy grilling – whether you are a condo dweller, an apartment resident or a newlywed couple, this grill is a must-have. Its full metal body, stainless steel thermostat, and an inexpensive price tag make it too good a grill to leave.
6. Weber 52020001 Q1400 – Highly Recommend For Outdoors
So far in this review, there is no grill as expensive as this one. Even when compared with the best seller from George Foreman, it is THREE TIMES more expensive. Hence, only if you have deep pockets than go for this product.
Let me ask you a question:
Do you love assembling items you fully paid for in advance? You don’t. No one does.
The reason why I’ve asked you this question is that this electric grill comes fully assembled. That’s it. It’s ready to use straight out of the box.
Another thing which you might think we have ignored so far, but we didn’t, is the length of the cord. For, no matter how good a grill is, it is useless if its cord isn’t good or long enough. Thankfully, the cord of this grill shows both capabilities. In addition to being 6foot in length, it is grounded, meaning there are no safety risks involved.
Similarly, if you had to say goodbye to your last grill because of rust, the Weber Q1400 is a must-have. Thanks to its rust-resistant, cast aluminum body, you can use it for ages without having a trace of rust on the grill.
What’s more, underneath the body, there is a catch pan which holds both fats and meat juices. Also, to make removing these substances easier, the catch pan is removable, making your work a cinch.
Another feature worth noticing about this grill is its heat controlling knob. Boasting a large number of heat settings, you can set it at your desired temperature to roast a chicken or sear a steak without any problem.
Lastly, as you already noticed with the previous product, some electric grills do have a problem when it comes to heat retention. Unsurprisingly, the Weber Q1400 doesn’t have any such problems. Why? Say hello to the heat retaining aluminum liners gracing the middle of this grill.
In addition to not allowing the heat to escape – whether you’ve opened the grill or closed it, they provide an even temperature throughout the grill.
As stated in the first line, this electric grill is anything but inexpensive. To worse matters, its cooking area doesn’t do any justice to its astronomical price tag as well.
The Bottom Line
If you can afford to pay over the odds – and don’t want to invite the entire family to a party at once, this electric grill will sort you out.
7. Secura GR-1503XL – Best Small Electric Grill
When this grill first came on the market, it had an above average price tag for its features. Consequently, it didn’t fare well. It was only after Secura reduced the price tag that people started taking it seriously. And as those people now tell, this grill is worth taking serious.
After looking at its name, you might ask:
what makes this grill reversible 2 in 1 Grill Griddle? Here is half of the answer: its heavy duty, removable tri-ply cooking plate.
The other half is concerned with the heating element. Sandwiched between the griddle and grill plate, it not only allows you to grill and griddle at the same time but also saves cabinet space. Consequently, you can do more work in less time with even less fuss.
For, let’s say you want to fry an egg and boil a steak at the same time. This grill will let you do that. On its upper layer – that of the griddle, a shiny, nonstick surface will allow you to boil the egg. In the lower layer, place a steak and this grill will do that too. How’s that for convenience!
Moreover, to heat two or more items in one go, it is essential that the grill retains heat. To do just that, Secura has equipped this grill with a removable glass lid. Apart from retaining heat, it has extra moisture vents on its side to keep food crispy while you are barbecuing. What’s more, it even prevents splatter.
Finally, since it will be used in indoor conditions, it is bound to be safe. Thankfully, Secura has made sure of it by armoring this grill with a cool touch handle and housing. Also, it has a heating indicator light which lets you see whether the grill has adequately preheated or not without even opening the lid.
According to some users, the design of this grill is a double edged sword. For, where at one end it allows more servings, it makes cleaning difficult at the other. Put simply, if you are using soapy water, the soap will go underneath the base and you’ve to try very hard to get it out.
The Bottom Line
If you want to make room in your kitchen, this reversible 2 in 1 Grill Griddle is a must-have. Apart from giving you the freedom to cook more in less time, its reversible plates – when combined with the removable glass lid, makes it an attractive option to have.
This grill has enamored its users similarly with its features. Let’s take a look at how it did it.
As you may have noted, not many grills mentioned in this review were known for grilling seafood. This one, however, is different. Thanks to its large nonstick surface – and the drip pan lying underneath, it won’t store any of the oil coming from the food. Rather, thanks to its streamlined design, the oil will go straight to the pan, from where you can remove it with ease.
Secondly, safety is the name of the game if you are using this grill. How? Two important features are at play here, the first of which you’re already familiar with: cool touch handles. Swatting aside the risk of accidental burns, the cool touch handles make this grill a safe option for the household with kids.
The second and the most important option is concerned with its installation. As you might testify from experience, most grills malfunction when, after installed incorrectly, you preheat them. This one, however, isn’t taking any chances with your skills.
For, as long as you haven’t installed every part of the grill correctly, it will not turn the heat on. Hence, before complaining that the grill has malfunctioned – because it won’t heat, better check whether you have installed its parts correctly or not.
Finally, some grills damage the kitchen counter or table top on which they are placed with their heat. This grill, however, won’t damage either. For, its bottom surface is made of plastic which, instead of transmitting heat, will absorb it within. So, you don’t have to place any covering duster underneath the grill to protect your kitchen.
There are two minor shortcomings of this grill. First, it has no cover, so you might want to cover the meat with a plate or anything else. Second, not all of its parts are dishwasher safe. You might have to use the hands to clean them.
The Bottom Line
Before dishwashers were invented we – or our ancestors, used to wash dishes with their own hands. If you are ready to invoke the same spirit, there is no reason why this grill won’t suit you.
It doesn’t matter how good electric grills are, they cannot give the same texture and taste as their gas and propane counterparts. Keeping this in mind, we have added three grills from the last two categories as well. However, since they weren’t concerned with the main article, we have decided to keep their reviews short.
Cuisinart CGG-180 – Best Propane Grill For The Money
Firstly, this grill is best if you want to use it outdoors. Boasting a Stand – which has a lid to keep it secure, and a heavy heat input, your neighbors would love it when you fill their nostrils with the aroma coming out of this gas grill.
Apart from making it portable, another thing which the hand does is to lift the grill to standing height. That is, it lets you grill the food while you are standing. Say no to back pains!
Another thing for which this grill is famous is the number of people it accommodates. At once, you can place six servings on it, with the heating element making sure that the heat gets evenly distributed.
What’s more, in a bid to make this grill super portable – and perfect for smaller places at the same time, three features come into play.
The first of which is the stand which we have already discussed. The second is its weight which, weighing just less than 20lbs, lets you pack this grill and take it with you anywhere you go. The third and the most important feature is the handle which lets carry this grill without breaking a sweat.
If there is one word review of this grill, it has to be: durable. Unlike other grills of the same ilk, this grill doesn’t only have a cast-aluminum lid but also has a cast-aluminum body.
Consequently, there are minimal chances of it getting rust any time soon. What’s more, making this grill a perfect companion on your outdoor trips is its weather-resistant handle. Just like the body, the handle won’t show any signs of environmental abuse.
Also, this grill is super easy to use, as evidenced by its push button ignition and the stainless steel burner. While the latter distributes heat evenly, the latter makes starting the burner a cinch.
Lastly, the grill is super easy to clean, the credit of which must go to the grates. For, being removable, they allow easy detachment to let you clean the grill with ease.
After selecting a product from the above-mentioned list, you might think the job is done. It might be, but if you want to make an informed choice, go through this buying guide. For, it will acclimatize you with the features which distinguish the best electric grills from the riffraff. Consequently, you’ll be in a much better position to make a selection.
TEMPERATURE GAUGE: Most electric grills have a cover – which means you don’t know what’s going inside. In such a scenario, you need a temperature gauge to tell you when the inside temperature has become adequate for cooking.
In the worst case scenario – if your grill doesn’t have a temperature gauge, it should have a GO light. This light turns on the moment the grill reaches your set temperature – telling you it’s time to cook.
COOKING PLATES: Just like anything else in our life, electric grills are not self-cleaning. You have to clean them to make sure they remain functioning. Hence, you need a grill which has removable grates or cooking plates.
Believe me; I’ve watched people wrestle with their grates, so I can testify how awkward it looks, not to mention how difficult it is to clean non-removable grates. So, what you need is a removable cooking plate which you can just detach from the grill and put into the dishwasher for cleaning.
SIZE: Unlike other factors, the size of the grill is one factor which only you can decide. If you live in a condo or a studio apartment, you’ll obviously need a small electric grill. That said, if you have gone for a small size, remember that you won’t be able to throw parties using that grill.
Hence, in addition to considering your house size, you need to consider the workload which you are going to put on the upcoming electric grill. Only then make your final decision on the size.
COOKING MODES FLOATING HINGE: Talking about the best electric grills, most of them have two cooking modes in common: frozen and manual. As the name implies, the frozen mode enables the grill to deal with tough, icy food with ease. However, if the vegetables and/or meats are fresh from the market, you can choose the manual mode.
After various cooking modes, one feature your grill must have is a floating hinge. For, regardless of whether you are grilling thick or thin foods, a floating hinge will evenly grill both. Consequently, there would be little chance of the inner layer of your pizza remaining half baked.
COOKING PROGRAMS: Ask grill users, and most of them will mistake cooking programs for cooking modes. However, as we are going to show you, there is a world of difference between cooking modes and cooking programs.
For, talking about cooking modes, they can be divided into six general categories. The categories include boil, stew, steam, puree, fry, and dough. Consequently, it will cook food on the basis of these categories.
Consequently, while a cooking mode will treat red meat, fish, burger, and poultry as one – provided all of them are fresh, a cooking program will treat them differently. Subsequently, it will cook each of them differently as well.
Put simply, cooking programs are designed to deal with each food item differently. This is the reason why the best electric grills have more than five automatic cooking programs in them.
COOL TOUCH HANDLES: Ask professional chefs, and they will testify that nothing infuriates them more than hot touch handles. While the problem might be less severe when you are cooking food at home, cool touch handles are a nice option to have. What’s more, most companies don’t charge extra for providing them. So, you can get them by paying a marginal price in comparison to their hot counterparts.
NONSTICK SURFACE: When it comes to nonstick surfaces, most people underestimate their usefulness. For, most of them think that nonstick surfaces have only one big advantage: that of letting the user pick charred food off the grill with ease.
There is, however, another major advantage of using a nonstick surface: you’ll have to use less oil. For, since the whole surface will be coated, oil will spread more easily over it than it might do over a tainted surface.
Hence, if you suffer from High Blood Pressure – and your doctor has recommended using less oil, a nonstick electric grill might help.
DISHWASHER SAFE: In addition to having removable grates, an easy-to-clean electric grill must have another feature: the grills should be dishwasher safe. For, let’s be honest that nobody wants to clean cutlery items with hands these days. Hence, if you don’t want to get your hands dirty, invest in a grill whose plates are dishwasher safe.
LOCKING LATCH: Since you’ll be dealing with an electric appliance – one which will get hot on extended usage, you’ll need children to stay away from it. Consequently, you’ll need a locking latch which could cover the whole upper part of the grill when not in use. In this way, you’d protect the kids and yourself from accidental burns.
Your search of the best electric grill ends here. That said, we are open to suggestions and if you believe that we missed some of the best grills, please feel free to give your suggestions in the comments box.
